Clinical Supervisor at
Connections Therapy & Consultative Supervision
Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, CF64 2PJ
I understand that it can be difficult to reach out for help when life is not as we want it to be right now. I also know that it can be difficult to share private and difficult thoughts and feelings with anyone, yet alone a "stranger" in the form of a therapist. I can offer you a warm, safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where you will be heard. Developing a therapeutic relationship is really important in my practice so we can take time to do this by exploring your presenting issues at your pace and think about what you want to achieve and how I can help you to do this.
I have 20 years experience of working with issues such as depression/low mood, self esteem issues, bereavement, family communication/trauma, burn-out and relationship issues at work or at home, divorce, separation, health anxiety, PTSD, general anxiety etc. I have a particular interest in working with client who have experienced sexual violence (current or historic) and domestic abuse as I have extensive experience working with clients in this area.
I qualified as a Person-centred/Existential Counsellor in 2005 and have experience of working as a Senior Trauma Therapist in a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in the NHS for over 8 years. I also worked as a Senior Counsellor in an Employee Wellbeing Service (staff counselling service) in the NHS for over 15 years. I retired from working in the NHS in 2020 but continue to practice privately.
I qualified as a Clinical Supervisor with the University of South Wales in 2015 and opened my own counselling and consultative supervision practice at that time.
My current experience is offering group and individual clinical supervision to qualified counsellors and counsellors in training with 2 menta; heath charities and a domestic abuse charity in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. I also offer clinical supervision to the Disclosure Response Team with Cardiff University as well as supervising counsellors in their private practice.
My style of clinical supervision is confidential, boundaried, warm, inclusive, educational, challenging and affirming. My aim is to ensure that my supervisees get the most from their sessions and can process and challenge their thoughts and feelings about working with their clients and beyond.
I know that it can be really hard sometimes to be open and honest in clinical supervision about challenging our "blind spots" or admitting that we don't always get it right. Supervisees will always experience a non-judgemental, empathic and congruent approach in my practice where the aim is to learn and grow and where self care and positive affirmation is vital.
I follow the Cyclical Model of clinical supervision (Page & Wosket) which mirrors the way counsellors work in their practice.
I trained as a CBT Trauma Therapist in 2022 and worked as a Trauma Therapist in the Trauma and Veterans Centre in the NHS. .
My Fees are:
Counselling Clients - £55 per 60 minutes
Supervision: £65 per hour for qualified Counsellors / £50 per hour for counsellors in training
